The handmade chalk bag: Compackt x OD

Compackt is an independent brand launched in 2023 by Jérémie, a passionate cyclist who designs and handcrafts technical bags and panniers for bicycles, first conceived for his own use before being offered to other enthusiasts.

Born out of the frustration of not finding luggage to his liking to equip his gravel bike, the project began in 2021–2022 with homemade prototypes, tested and improved over the course of his rides, eventually becoming a small range dedicated to bikepacking and daily commuting by bike.

Today, Compackt remains a human-sized project, focused on functional, durable, and handmade products, with particular attention to detail, compactness, and real-world use in the field.

With Jérémie, it all started with a few exchanges on Instagram, then we finally met at the Salon de l'escalade in Paris, where he was exhibiting his products. That's where I really discovered the quality of his bags, pouches, etc., and I was blown away by the finishes. Afterwards, we continued to chat on social networks and, little by little, the idea of a joint project was born: to bring together Jérémie's technical expertise and Outside Details' DNA in the same product. That's how this chalk bag was born.

After several exchanges, I went to visit him in his workshop to see behind the scenes and understand how he designs his products. Very quickly, we found the perfect blend between our two worlds: a chalk bag in the colors of Outside Details (yellow and black), with the quality and finishes unique to Compackt.

Next, we went for a bouldering session to test it in real conditions, taking the opportunity to snap some photos and keep a record of this moment.

We chose to produce 30 of them: each chalk bag is numbered, making it truly unique. We opted for a small run because each piece is handmade, with care, by Jérémie, and this meticulous work takes a lot of time.

We are really happy with the result and I was very pleased to lead this project with Jérémie, who has a real talent. This is typically the kind of collaboration that thrills me: it reminds me that work on social media isn't just ephemeral, but that it allows for the creation of real connections between people. Today, this connection has materialized in this bag, and I am delighted.
